Producers initiate participation in OFAER by contacting most state pork associations, other participating livestock or poultry organizations, or contacting
Validus Services, LLC and requesting a
Form
A.
The producer completes the Form
A to provide information about the location and contact information for the operation, as well as a general description of the operation’s production methods, neighboring land use, manure management systems, land application practices and biosecurity requirements. The
Form
A is returned to the same organization that provided the form to the producer so it can be checked for completeness. When the
Form
A reaches Validus, an assessment team is assigned to the farm.
The assessors then
contact the producer directly to set a date and time for the
on farm assessment.
When the on farm assessment has been completed, the team provides the producer a brief verbal report of their observations. Within four to six weeks, a written report is sent to the producer detailing the key risk areas for odor or water quality impacts. The report includes a summary of observations, strengths,
challenges. Also included is other recommendations for those challenges along with other information the producer can use to obtain any design, management or cost-share assistance that may be necessary or available for the producer to correct any risk areas identified.
